Environment Conservation
Society ? Kosti Branch (SECS
) KB is an indigenous
environmental civil society
that deal with challenges at
the intersection of
environment and health in
Kosti .Focus area of KB
include
combating
of Iodine deficiency
disorders (IDD) HIV\AIDS
patients, roll back malaria
and Improvement of
Tuberculosis, Malnourished
children health and HIV AIDS
patients health food
distribution .
Kosti area has been
subjected for last twenty
last years to several
growing environmental
problems headed by poor
sanitation, water and heath
facilities. During the last
decade our major efforts are
directed and concentrated in
the program of roll back
Malaria in the district. The
first step done was the
partnership with UNCEF
(2001-2004) . ( a copy of
the agreement is attached ).
Our project activities
during include :-
1 ? Conducting health
education campaign to raise
people awareness towards
malaria
2 ? Organizing health days
for curing malaria .
3 ? Distribution of mosquito
bed-nets with priority to
pregnant women and children
under five
.
4 ?High lighting the role of
children participation in
combating Malaria through
Songs & Drama .
5 ? Organizing programmers
of spraying the affected
areas with K . othnine.
6 ? Conducting health
education session to raise
women awareness towards the
danger of (ARI) Diarrhea and
Malnutrition , with
monitoring and treatment of
the diseases ,connected with
food distribution for
pregnant women and
malnourished children
besides availing essential
drugs .
7 ? Conducting a community
health and nutrition
training sessions in the
camps and squatter areas .
8 ? Supplying the children
section in Kosti hospital
with food substances and
essential drugs .
9 ? Monitoring and
evaluation ( field visits)
UNCEF
terminated its agreement
with SECS KB three years ago
because it considered that
White Nile State was not a
focus state although. The
incidence of Malaria is
still high and people are
suffering a lot during the
rainy season. SECS ?KB
decided to go ahead with the
program using its own
resources and though
partnership building and
participation with other
stakeholders .
